Genesis 26
20 the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen, saying, “The water is ours.” So he called the name of the well Esek,[a] because they contended with him. 21 Then they dug another well, and they quarreled over that also, so he called its name Sitnah.[b] 22 And he moved from there and dug another well, and they did not quarrel over it. So he called its name Rehoboth,[c] saying, “For now the LORD has made room for us, and we shall be fruitful in the land.”
What a great word in light of our church prayer meeting last night. I am eager to know the full meaning of these two quarrelsome wells, Esek and Sitnah. That I may pray against such talk. Lord may the digging of the well of our new RCCC be called Rehoboth.
Esek is a donkey. With all the meanings a donkey provides.
The word (Sitnah) is the feminine form of , satan, which means adversary. Both names come from the verb (satan),meaning to resist or be an adversary and is used six times in the Bible (see our article on the name satan for a closer look at the etymology and compass of both these names). In Ezra 4:6 the word sitnah is used to mean a written statement of accusation.
The name Sitnah means Contrary or Enmity.
Rehoboth was only listed as a place. No secondary definition or meaning.
Matthew 9
15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast.
Praise be to God for this next reminder of the purpose of fasting. What are we to be mourning Lord? May we mourn for what grieves your heart. May we rejoice and be glad when we enter into your presence for yes the Bride groom is with us even if it be just in Spirit.
